Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever - Toller for Short

The aim of this information is to make sure you know exactly what you are taking on.

Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever This article is written by a breeder who has owned, trained and bred these lovely dogs for the past 14 years. I have also been a dog trainer, for all breeds for 35 years.

The Toller is no ordinary dog - great care and consideration should be taken before embarking on this 12 - 14 year partnership. The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever is bright, cheerful, very BRAIN clever, energetic, agile, has a fantastic sense of humour, affectionate and very loyal. On top of all that they are strikingly good looking - and they know it!!

If you are the type of person that spends most of your time on your backside in front of the TV, only moving to collect sustenance from the kitchen, please stop reading now and leave the Toller puppy with the breeder.

If you or you and your family have energy and enthusiasm for life - look a little closer - the Toller MIGHT be for you!

Bosco The good thing about this breed is that they make a good all rounder each family member can follow a different discipline with the same dog. They can be a gundog with dad on Saturday, they can do obedience with mum on a Tuesday and the children could do agility, flyball, working trials or anything else that takes your fancy. With the right training and guidance the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever is extraordinary.

Perdi Of course they need a good walk, of course they enjoy a day on the moors at weekends but they also need kind discipline and training. You can train for serious stuff like gundog or working trials as many of my dogs have been trained for. You could do what many of my pet owners do and train fun things like skate board, putting toys away, hide and seek, heel work to music / dancing, party tricks and many other things. Things that concentrate the mind and keep your dog busy and out of trouble.

Lily Lily had five homes by the time she was 6 months - I did not breed her but we decided that if she was moved any more it might cause permanent harm, so she is staying - she is a delight.

TillyAgain, people often take on board the advice - and probably quite genuine in their intent - buy their pup and do all the training and then something happens, a new baby, divorce, marriage, new job, new house, the dog gets put on a back burner and suddenly to the owners surprise all hell breaks loose - at this point the dog is often dumped - blame is wrongly put on the animal for conditions far beyond it's control.

With proper help and consideration most of these problems can be overcome - but the owner must be willing. If it's lucky the dog is returned to the breeder where it will either be kept or found a suitable home. More often they are dumped in the nearest rescue centre where they are often misunderstood and wrongly put to sleep.

If you are a Toller owner that owns a mistake - please return it to your breeder
